I think it is very little investment to build your own website in USA.So the most important is how to get traffic to your website,and SEO your website is very important,you need to learn more knowledge about software or related computer .

If you know how to invest, own a right plugin and get an expert to advice you.. Pretty sure no problem to make a lot of money on it..

I've also thought about this but unfortunately as much as I hate to admit I can't see a site being a serious competitor against eBay within the next decade... But having a site to sell your own stuff on is definitely a good idea

You don't compete against eBay or the other large marketplaces, you use them along with your own website where you center your business.
